SAINT PAUL – The Minnesota AFL-CIO has endorsed
Rebecca Otto for reelection as State Auditor. The seventy-member board
made their decision in time for the start of the caucus and convention
season.
“Affiliates are confident (Rebecca) will work hard for
union members and working families across the state,” said Minnesota
AFL-CIO President Shar Knutson.
Minnesota State Auditor Rebecca Otto is a strong
advocate for local governments. She has helped local governments reduce
overhead while protecting jobs and improving service. Otto is persistent
in her pursuit to expose that the ‘no-new-taxes’ mantra has shifted the
states’ financial mess onto property taxes.
Otto has also worked to insure that prevailing wage laws
are being followed, and supports the Employee Free Choice Act. She
has instituted dozens of key innovations streamlining the way government
operates and saving precious taxpayer dollars.
"My predecessor liked to talk about reinventing government but she
accomplished almost nothing in that regard. She just grandstanded," said
Otto. "I am actually delivering innovation."
President Shar Knutson said of the endorsement, “Rebecca
Otto will continue to be an effective voice for the working families in
our state and will work to promote a progressive families’ agenda. We’re
proud to endorse her for 2010.”
The Minnesota AFL-CIO is made up of more than 1,000
affiliates representing over 300,000 working men and women throughout
the state.
Rebecca Otto's husband, Shawn, is a member of an AFL-CIO
affiliated union and was the Minnesota Strike Captain for the Writer's
Strike in 2007, and initial organizer of the WGA's "national action."
