SAINT PAUL - Former Representative Rebecca Otto, DFL - Marine on St.
Croix, won the Saint Paul DFL Straw Poll here last night.
The non-binding preference ballot
was held at a fundraiser for the St Paul DFL party unit attended by some
400 party activists.
Otto won with 190 votes, or 64% of
the ballots cast for either candidate in the race for State Auditor.
Otto attributed her wide margin to
"strong support from our many volunteers. I've been very honored
by the level of commitment of DFLers in Saint Paul and state-wide to
helping me deliver my message of turning around the financial
instability of our local communities that is being caused by bad fiscal
policy at the state," she said.
"People are tired of the property
tax increases, fee increases, and all the shifts and gimmicks that have
been hurting our local communities and our schools. They want to
return to good old fashioned honest budgeting, and I'm here to help make
sure that can happen."
Otto raised more money last year than all her opponents combined,
Democrat and Republican. To win, she says, she needs to do that again
this year. Her endorsements include more than 220 Minnesota leaders.
