Dear Friend:
Just a quick note to catch you up on how things are going in my race for Minnesota State Auditor.
First in Fundraising
in 2005! Thank you! With your help, we outfundraised the incumbent Republican State Auditor by 24%
in 2005! That shows just how strongly people are motivated to return our state to sound fiscal policy. To win, we need to do that again this year, and I very much hope you will help.
If you believe 'no new taxes' is the wrong direction for our state, please contribute by clicking here - you can give $50 and get a full refund from the state campaign fund, so it could cost you nothing to help me spread this message far and wide.
Support expanding rapidly Over 220
of Minnesota's top leaders, including 50 legislators, have signed on to publicly support me in this race. You can see who's who by clicking here, and if you are a community, party, or elected leader past or present, please add your name as a supporter by clicking here.
Why I'm running As a former school board member and state legislator, I worked on both
state and local budgets ranging from $52 million to $38 billion. I developed a philosophy of fiscal responsibility, of fighting shifts and gimmicks and the rise in property
taxes, of treating local governments and school districts like
partners, of looking out for the needs of the weak as well as the strong, and I started a crusade to stop the distorted state fiscal
policy that I saw was being created by the irresponsible 'no new taxes' pledge which the
current Auditor signed.
I began that crusade by bringing John Gunyou and Jay Kiedrowski together, two former finance commissioners of opposing political parties, who then toured the state debunking the myth of 'no new taxes.' Soon after, Arne Carlson and Walter Mondale came together to support my efforts as well.
I am continuing that crusade now.
To learn why "no new taxes" is bad fiscal policy that is hurting our schools and local communities, click here - and then join my grassroots campaign to stop the distortion.
As State Auditor, I believe government should be accountable to you,
not to special interest groups like the Taxpayer's League, and I
will work to ensure accountability at all levels of
government, not just local governments, by advocating for sound
fiscal policy and against bad fiscal policy at the state capitol -
for policy that does not weaken school and local government finances
like we've seen lately, or force property tax increases.
House Parties in full swing We
have a slate of terrific house parties lined up with dozens of
Minnesota leaders as cohosts across the state several nights a week.
Please come to one so I can see you in person, and you can ask me
questions and hear about my vision. To host one yourself, sign up by clicking here.
Field organization up and running Field
Director Sara Kloek is the former Chair of College Democrats - U of M
Morris, a former intern at Grassroots Solutions, and a 2004 national
delegate. She's an outstanding organizer and she's signed on full
time to set up a first class field operation. To volunteer time
phoning, doorknocking, lit dropping, or to support me as a precinct
caucus or state delegate, click here to email Sara!
Media magic I
have been in several local newspapers already, on several radio shows,
and on cable TV and local broadcast TV stations, spreading my message
about the Auditor's race and its importance to our state fiscal policy. Watch and
listen for more!
Now we need the last ingredient... you! The
fact is, I can't do this alone. People know I am passionate about the
future and what our state will be like for my son, and prominent people
of both parties believe in my cause of returning our state to stable
and responsible fiscal policy, ending an era when inflation is not
accounted for, shifts and gimmicks are considered savings, and antigovernment
special interest groups call the shots.
If you believe we can do better...
if you believe our
vision as a state should be focused on the future and being the best
instead of on rhetoric and pledges...
then I need your support.
More
than any other year in recent memory, this year the State Auditor's
race is critical to reclaiming our state's fiscal responsibility and
forward vision. Please consider making a contribution and getting involved. It's for all
of us and, believe me, it's worth it. Not sure? Ask yourself how much your property taxes, fees and tuition are going up under the 'no new taxes' pledge.
You don't have to contribute much, but if you care about the future of Minnesota, please contribute something.
It takes just 2 easy steps:
Let's turn this ship around!
All kind regards,
 Rebecca
